porta borsari verona

Why is it called Porta Borsari?

Porta Borsari is a majestic Roman gate dating back to the 1st century AD. During the imperial era it was the main entrance to the city and was called Porta Iovia.

The current name dates back to the Middle Ages, taking its name from the bursarii who at that time collected the duties of incoming and outgoing goods.
